Thank you for giving us the opportunity to respond to your concerns,
comments, and requests. I will attempt to address all your concerns, comments, and
requests in this letter. The letter has been organized with the Division's comment's
listed in bold followed by MDI's response in regular text.
All information submitted in this letter is not intended to serve as an amendment to
MDI's conversion application. Information which will amend the conversion application
will follow in a separate letter. The rest of the information contained in this letter is
intended to clarify any questions or comments the Division has.
Adequacy Review Comments
Application Package
1. The post-mining land use appears to be dryland pasture rather than range
land. A rangeland designation would require the re-establishment of shrubs and
trees on the site. If MDI wishes to restore the site to rangeland, the revegetation
seed mix should be revised to include native shrub and tree species.
Additionally, shrub and tree transplants would be recommended. If dryland
pasture is desired for the post-mining land use, that page of the application
should be revised accordingly.
Upon reviewing Rule 3.1.1(1), dryland pasture was not an option for post mining land
use. MDI does wish to restore the land to dryland pasture, if this option is available to
us without having to change the seeding plan. MDI will revise this page of the permit
as necessary.
