Box 591 <br />Somerset, CO 81434 <br />Dear Mr. Schmidt: <br />Enclosed for your review is an Environmental Assessment (EA} for the Proposed Modifications <br />of Federa] Coal Leases C-1362 and COC-56447. Mountain Coal Company (MCC) applied to <br />the BLM and Forest Service to tnodify two of their coal leases by adding about 300 acres to the <br />existing leased areas. <br />This EA was prepared jointly by the Forest Service and BLM, with the Office of Surface Mining <br />Reclamation and Enforcement participating as a cooperating agency. The analysis presented in <br />the EA considered two alternatives; the No Action and the Proposed Action. Some of the key <br />issues analyzed in [he EA included subsidence effects on water resources, wildlife habitat and <br />roadless area characteristics. <br />This E.A is being submitted fora 30-day public review period. Comments on the EA must be <br />received by April 2, 2001.
