Lang <br />Div,sion Director <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116, Paragraph <br />4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on March 4, 1999, an application to revise coal mining operations at the Lorencito <br />Canyon Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Lorencito Coal Company, <br />LLC. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />As a result of the delay in the start up of mining operations, Lorencito Coal Company (LLC) has requested a reduction in the <br />hydrologic monitoring program. Only monitoring frequency has been proposed for reduction; wholesale elimination of <br />monitoringsites is not proposed. Upon commencement of operations LCC will return to the original hydrologic monitoring <br />plan. <br />The combined surface and underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 3 miles west of Segundo on <br />Hwy 12. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />On lands south of the Purgatoire River, lands east of [he South Fork of the Purgatoire and Alamosa Canyon, lands north of <br />Vermejo Park, and lands west of Widow Woman Canyon containing approximately 17,862 acres. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Vigil. <br />A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Las Animas County Courthouse, 200 East <br />First Street, Room 104, Trinidad, CO 81082, and at [he Division office. For additional information or to provide written <br />comments, contact the Division of Minerals and Geology, Room 215, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado 80203, <br />(303) 866-3567. In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that comments be submitted within fifteen <br />(IS) days of this letter.
