This application is a conversion <br />and amendment to MLR Permit No. 78-14 and is submitted under <br />' Sections 34-32-110(8) and 34-32-112(8), Colorado Revised Statutes, <br />1983, and Rule 1.8 of the MLRB Rules and Regulations. <br />Locati2n. The affected land is located immediately north <br />of Alameda Parkway and approximately a half mile east of Rooney <br />' Road. Access is presently from Alameda Parkway. This portion <br />' of the Chieftain Mine is located in Jefferson County. <br />Current Conditions. Map Exhibit C shows the outline <br />' of the affected land, touching landowners, topography, hydrologic <br />factors and existing facilities. Map Exhibit I-1 depicts <br />' current soil conditions, and Map Exhibit J-1 depicts current <br />' vegetation on the affected land. <br />Mining has been in progress for more than 45 years. <br />' As a result, about one-third of the affected land was disturbed <br />pre-law. The pre-law disturbances are shown on Map Exhibit C. <br />' No buildings are located on the affected land or within <br />200 feet of the boundaries thereof. The only structure on <br />the property is a high-tension power line which will not be <br />disturbed by the mining process. <br />Geologic Setting. The affected land is located on the <br />far west side of the Denver-Julesburg Basin, approximately <br />' two and one-half miles north/northeast of the Town of Morrison. <br />The sedimentary beds of Cretaceous Age dip steeply to the <br />' S <br /> <br />
