ROCKY MOUNTAIN CONSULTANTS, INC.
A TETRA TECH COMPANY
RECEIVED
Nov o z zooz /
November 6, 2002 Uiuisl°n of Minerals and Ge°Iogy
Mr. Gregg Squire
Colorado Dept. of Natural Resources
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
ern- ~
RE: Hall-Irwin Corporation's '~
/The Shores Resource -Firestone, Colorado
Amendment Application for MLRB 112 Permit #M-1998-013 /
RMC Job No. 80.0636.026.04
Deaz Mr. Squire:
On September 30, 2002, we submitted an application to amend the current MLRB 112
permit for The Shores gravel mine site in Firestone, CO. The purpose of the amendment
application is to increase the total mined area to approximately 221-acres of the 309.83-
acre parcel. Since the original application was submitted, Hall-Irwin Corporation has
determined that the water storage reservoirs described in the reclamation plan will need
to be lined. Two separate slurry walls will be constructed around the mined areas to
contain the water within the reservoirs for long-term storage. On October 30, 2002,
Danna Ortiz spoke to Cazl Mount about how to modify the amendment application.
Pursuant to his request, we have enclosed two copies of the revised maps along with this
letter of explanation. We understand that the Public Notice for this application will need
to be re-published and that the 90-day application review period will begin on the date
this letter is accepted by the DMG office.
The following are the proposed changes to the application (the numbering corresponds to
the original amendment application submitted on September 30, 2002):
Exhibit D -Mining Plan
B. Operational Methods
6. Slurry Wall: Hall-Irwin wilt construct two slurry walls around the
mining areas; one around phases 4, 5, 6 and 7, the second around phases 8 and
9- At this time it is not known when the two slurry walls will be constructed.
CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING PLANNING
Inc
1900 S.
