Appropriate notifications were issued and Ure source of the upset, a Coiled compression joint, was repaired. A[ 8:00 a.m, on March 22, [he [[tine discharge pwnp was restarted and operation oC Ute veahnent rystzm resumed. As a part of the stanup procedure, the recently repaired piping was exattuned and found to be iu good working condidon. The site was visited several tunes during the day as routine satttples were collected and tltz well depth was checked. i made Ute final check for the day, at Outfall 001 at approximately 5:00 p.nt. and found nothing out of the ordinary. On the morning of Ute 23rd I began my day with a visit to Outfall 001. As 1 observed the first treaunent pond I knew that sotnetltirtg was atrdss. The water level in Ute pond was below its normal elevation. I itwnediately went to check Ure location of the recent pipe repair iu the Soutb Pwnp nudrole and determined the problem. It was not a recurrence of the previous Icak in We ntatiltole. Instead, 1 found a new leak approximately 10 feet outside of the manhole. Water was again rum»ng into Ute contaimnent area, Uten seeping from under the tce of the contvnment area's embarrlunent. inunediately shut off the pump, Urereby stopping additional Oow (8:00 a.mJ. 1 Uten checked wrd recorded field parvnelers of tltc wttreated water. 1 also recorded field pararttctcrs at several locations wiUtin Ute treaunent ryslem and measured the flow at the Outfall OOI discharge Oume. After retunung 10 my office to procure sample bottles, I Collected a sample of Ute water Cur arwlysis (9.00 a.nt.). The source of the Icak was found to be a separated joint in the bell wtd spigot pipe. The saturated soil around the pipe load apparently allowed enough mo.•cmcut of the pipeline to separate We join[.
