A section of the sandstone, ranging from 12 feet wide (east end)
to 0 .fcet wide (wear end) had previously slabbed off along ib joint strocmrc and fallen into the pone] area.
A S foes thick Crction of sandstone behlod the fallen area hat since Clumped for a distance of approximately
40 feet along the previously described rock joint system. This aeetion of sandstone is slowly crushing and
breaking and poteetially will slough Into the portal area with the previous fallen mnterisl. No additional
failuro is evident above and behind the slumped sealoo of sandstone.
13nergy Furls believm that stabitiraiton of the subject highwall area wiil be eeaompiiched by
completion of the currently approved ralsmation plea for the Raton Croak No. 1 portal area (F~st portal
area). Specifically, the trukfilling and grading of the portal Brea will rover up to and ^upport the existing
section of highwall which le fa[Iing and extend beyond both coda of the highwall which are currently sable.
The 511 depth will reach approximrWy 30 feet agalnCt the highwall. The brekfill and grading plan for the
portal aroe is fully described on page 493 through 498 of the approved permit. In addition, port mining
topography of the subject portal area le ahotvn on Map 17 sad Map 17b to the permit application.
Energy Fuels has reeemly been worfring on a raclrmrrion timetable for the Raton Creek Mlnaslte
and has targeted the No. 1 Mine portal area as part of our "Phass I' reclamation schedule. A rough drag of
a bid request psckage for Phase I rnolrmstion V complete. Energy Fuels will complete and mail the bid
requests to biddeta on or beforo May 14, 199] and commence teolrmation u soon as Tune 7, 1993 based on
contractor availihility. Since the primary focus of Phase I rtxlemadon concerns backfilling the No, 1 Mine
portal area, rapid etabilisatloa of the (riling highwall will be made s high priority paR of the roclamstion
project.
