III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
999

DATE: March 19, 2001
TO: Sandy Brown
FROM: Joe Dudash
RE: Minor Revision No. 56, CBM-1 Drill Pad, Sanborn Creek Mine
I reviewed the recent redesign submittals dated March 6, 2001 and March 15, 2001 concerning
MR-56. The operator has answered all of the Division's concems. The fol9owing are my
comments:
/. The hydrology design does no[ take in[o account the drainage area upgradien[ of the pad
area. That area appears to be qui[e a few acres in size. The hydrology design ei[her should
inclt[de the runoff from this upltrnd area or an upland diversion ditch should be included in
the design and in [he freld to keep this runoff off of the disturbed area. Please modify the
hydrology design and maps accordingly.
The Division has no further concems. The March 6, 2001 submittal and sheet 4 of 4 of
Drawing 2.05-M4, dated March I5, 2001, contained appropriate designs for an upland
diversion ditch.
/[ is [he Division's understanding [hat the drill pad will be an active site for some [ime. I~
may be mon[hs before the second and third holes are drilled. Ordinarily, [he Division does
not require Sedcad designs jor cr project that has a short active period. The Division assumes
[hat proper sediment control will be employed during the active phase, without the need for
actual hydrology designs, unless a sedimen[ation pond is being used jor sedimen[ control.
However, since this site will remain uc[ive jor a long time, it is appropria[e to submi[ these
Sedead designs.
However, Sedcad designs should also be submi[[ed tha[ reflect the condition when all drilling
has been done. These designs should reflect the freld condition when the m:td pits have been
filled in, the bare dirt areas and [opsoil stockpiles have been seeded and mulched, and the
seed has started to take, and any of the pad urea has been graveled, if [hut is [he plan. Please
submit a Sedcad design to reflect this pos[-drilling phase.
