As you know, the Technical Support <br />Branch was the Hine Safety and Health Administration (MS HA) contact for this <br />program. Because of recent changes, the Coal Hine Safety and Health <br />District 9 office will assume this responsibility for your State. <br />Therefore, all mining plans that require NSHA concurrence should be sent Co <br />John W. Barton, District Manager, Coal Hine Safety 6 Health, District 9, <br />P.O. Box 25367, Denver, Colorado 80225-0367. <br />All other surface mine plena will continue to be approved by the District <br />Manager, under authority of the Federal Hine Safety and Health Act of 1977, <br />and implementing regulations in Title 30, Code of Federal Regulations. <br />The Technical Support Branch has in the past been given an opportunity to <br />participate in the development of changes in regulations (OSM or State) that <br />affect MSHA, and we would like to continue that practice. Please contact <br />this office to afford us the opportunity to become involved in any changes <br />to regulations that will affect MSHA. <br />It ie our intent to act on these plane quickly, but our response time will <br />depend to a great ea tent on the quality of the information provided, and we <br />understand that most of the needed information is provided under the present <br />system. We will be involved in the approval of plane associated with mining <br />permits where mining activities will be conducted within 500 feet of an <br />active underground mine, and where water or mine waste or spoil will be <br />* * * * ~ <br />SAFETY NOTE: The person most likely to die under a roof fall is the <br />supervisor. <br />
