STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phase: (303) 8663567
FAX: (303) 832A706
August 31, 2005
Mr. Eric Reckentine
10170 Church Ranch Way, Suite 200
Westminster, CO 80021
COLORADO
DIVISION O F
MINERALS
GEOLOGY
RF CL~N~TIO N•NININO
S~fFTY•SCIENOE
gill Owens
Governor
Russell Geage
Executive Director
Ronald W. canary
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
RE: Withdrawal of Objection, Cancellation of Pre hearing and Board hearing, and Inquiry from
Morton & Stevens regarding possible impacts to their well due to Lafazge Riverbend Am. 1 Mining
Activities, File M-2000-016 AM-1
Y
Deaz Mr. Reckentine,
On August 26, 2005, Mr. Steve Lange hand delivered the enclosed letter to the Division. The letter,
signed by Mazgazet Morton, Robert J. Stevens and Larry L. Stevens, expressed concerns about the
possible impacts of the proposed Lafazge West, Inc. Riverbend Operation mining on their well located
in Section 12 of T 1, R 67 W of the 6°i P.M. in Weld County ,Colorado. In the letter it was requested
that the Division provide "a copy of the hydrologic study that pertains to our well and a copy of the
comments or findings provided to you (the Division) from the Lafazge application. Your conclusion
as to the hydrologic impact and requirements to mitigate the loss of water and or our use of the well are
also requested." While at the Division's office Mr. Lange obtained a disk of the Lafarge Permit
Amendment File, which should contain all the information that the Division has in regazd to this
request.
The last line of the letter states " We object to any impact that the mining and pit lining of the adjacent
land will have upon our irrigation well and farming operations." It was pointed out to Mr. Lange that
the Division would take measures to prevent impacts to the hydrologic balance, but this letter could not
be considered as a formal objection to the amendment application since the deadline for filing
objections had expired.
The letter also states "We would also expect any mitigation over the loss of our well to be fully
resolved prior to the issue of any mining permit. At this time, we have not been contacted by either
you (the Division) or Lafarge regarding this matter."
Office of pflice of Colorado
ulnas I >,wl Pwlam>9nn a..:..a ~...1 InaNi.•a ulna. l:anlnoi~>I Cun.a.,
