STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman S[., Room 215
Denier, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 8663567
FAX: (303) 832106
26 April 2006
Mr. Jim Stover
J. Box 60340
Grand Junction CO 81506
SUBJ: Coal Ridge Mine (C-84-065); Weed Management Plan follow-up
Dear Mr. Stover:
COLORADO
DIVISION O F
MIN SRALS
GEOLOGY
0.ECLANATION•MINING
SAFETY•ECIENCE
Bill Owens
Governor
Russell George
Executive Dinxtor
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Dimctw
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division of Minerals and Geology has approved minor revision 22, submitted in
response to comments for the permit renewal. In that submittal, the question was raised
about whether the weed management plan currently found on page 4-60 of the permit
application package (PAP) does or does not satisfy the requirements for weed
management plan required by the revised Rule 4.15.1(5).
To the extent that the plan on page 4.60 includes a weed management plan, it complies
with Rule 4.15.1(5). There are two items that should be included in the plan, however,
to bring it into full compliance as interpreted by the Division.
(1) A list of noxious weeds of concern should include all possible noxious
species. The Division requests that C.B. Minerals include on that list all the
species of concern that appear on the Garfield County noxious weed list. A copy
of that county list is attached to this letter and also can be found on the Garfield
County website.
(2) Because species listings by state and county are updated periodically as
species of concern are added or removed, the Division requests that C.B.
Minerals Company include wording in the plan to the effect that the weed
management plan will be accomplished in accordance with the Colorado Weed
Management Act [CRS35-5.5-115] and the Gazfield County Vegetation
Management Department directives, thus serving to accommodate changes as
they occur.
The changes to the existing plan can be submitted as a minor revision. The Division
requests that the revision be submitted by 16 May rather than 16 June, to account for the
earlier date by which the renewal application was submitted.
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and InaRive Mines Geological Survey
