PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS <br />1. Physiographic Features <br />Elevation ranges from 5500 to 7000 feet. Topography is <br />nearly level to hilly exposure. <br />2. Climatic Features <br />Average annual precipitation varies from 15 to IS inches. <br />Optimum growing season for native plants is spring and summer. <br />Snow falls in March, April and May and constitutes up to 25$ <br />of the annual moisture. <br />3. Native (potential) Vegetation <br />Except for mountain muhly, all the main grasses of this ~~lant <br />community are members of the true tall-grass prairie. Big <br />bluestem, little bluestem, side-oats grama, prairie drop,eed, <br />s~~+i tchgrass, yclluw Indiangrass and ncedlcrond-Chrcad are <br />inter-mixed r+iCh blue grams, Junegrass, ~~+estern ~~+heatyrass, sand- <br />wort, cudo-+eed sage, asters, hairy goldas[er, i,~inged buckwheat, <br />blazing star, nailwort, pens[emon, purple prairie clover are <br />characteristic (orbs which add to the a+ealth of plant species <br />of the si[e. <br />
