Dear 61r. Hernandez:
All of the concerns surrounding the mining operation
now under consideration near 1Villiams Canyon and the Cave
of the 1Vinds arise with the proposed strip mining venture.
As a former Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce president
and former chairman of the Manitou Springs Economic Development
Committee, I point out the danger to the industry of tourism
that will be created by the mining operation.
As a resident of Crystal Hills, in f+:anitou Springs, I
reemphasize the following concerns also:
The visible scarring of a beautiful area
The threat to the economy--the "tourist" connection
Air pollution--enough exists now in this battle
The threat to public safety--heavily loaded trucks present a
dangerous driving condition
I urge a denial of the permit to Castle concrete.
