Battle Mountain Resources has completed baseline analysis
of the surface and ground water quality for the San Luis Project.
Baseline analyses were conducted in accordance with the schedule
and list of parameters included as Tables G.1-3 and G.1-2,
respectively, in the original permit application.
We request a technical revision for the monitoring schedule
and list ofi parameters. The revision would slightly modify the
monitoring schedule and parameter list for surface and ground
water monitoring station. All other site monitoring would remain
as discussed in the approved permit and permit amendment.
Enclosed are revised Table G.1-2 and G.1-3 for you review.
The changes in water quality parameters include sampling for an
addition number ofi parameters semi-annually and fewer parameters
during the other two sampling periods. The additional parameters
include hardness, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and silica, with
radium-225, radium-228, lead-210, and uranium ana..yzed as
necessary based on the results of the gross alpha and gross beta
analyses. The sampling during the remaining two periods will
focus on those parameters which classify the water uses; for the
existing site waters and/or have established stream stalndard5.
The original Table G.1-3 indicated that after the 1'89 water
year, quarterly water sampling would occur at all sites except
the surface water flow sites. The more frequent monitoring was
being performed during baseline monitoring to evaluate temporal
shifts in water quality. The data collected to date indicate
that significant changes in water quantity or quality do not
occur during spring runoff. The revised Table G.1-3 shows
quarterly monitoring for all sites. The revision prcposed to
reduce flow measurement to quarterly measurements along with the
other quarterly sampling.
