T <br />iii iiuiiiiiiiii iii <br />1~~~ 5731 State Highway 13 <br />+OAL ~ Q Meeker, Colorado 81641 <br /> <br />COMPANY o (303) 824-4451 <br />September 14, 1993 <br />Ms. Janet Binns RFCF_!~'EG <br />Reclamation Specialist <br />Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology SEP 1?1993 <br />215 Centennial Building <br />1313 Sherman Street <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 ~i!~i~:c.^. c~ !.~ ~~~:r~~: ~ iaeciogy <br />RE: Permit C-81-019 <br />Colowyo Coal Company <br />Technical Revision No. 23, Interim Topography <br />Response to DMG letter dated September 3, 1993 <br />Dear Ms. Binns: <br />The purpose of this letter is to provide a response to <br />the Division's concerns raised in your September 3, 1993 <br />correspondence. <br />At the Division's recommendation, Colowyo will blend the <br />"ridgeline" by a combination of the following. 1) The upper <br />reaches of the Swale contours (7775.0, 7750.0 elevation) will be <br />shifted to the northeast to reduce the extent of the Swale. 2) The <br />lower Swale contours (7725.0, 7700.0 and 7675.0 elevation) will be <br />changed to widen the Swale and make it less pronounced and 3) the <br />top of the "ridgeline" will be flattened to make it less <br />pronounced. Effectively, the "ridgeline" will now be eliminated <br />above the 7750' contour elevation. <br />It is not our intention that these interim contours be <br />approved as final postmininq topography. Should it become <br />necessary to leave all or a portion of these interim contours as <br />final topography due to an unforeseen change in the final east pit <br />configuration, this issue will be addressed at some future date as <br />part of an overall Technical Revision for the East Pit. At this <br />time we do not anticipate this scenario, but the possibility <br />exists. Should a Technical Revision be necessary, it will, of <br />course, also involve a reconfiguration of the East Pit Ditch, etc. <br />To address possible changes to the East Pit Ditch now and its <br />relationship to the interim topography would be a pointless <br />exercise. <br />
