Box 535
Somerset, Colorado 61434
Re: Somerset Mine, File C-61-022, TR18 S-2 Monitoring Reduction Adequacy
Review
Dear Mr. Wright:
The Division has reviewed both the August 16, 1993 and the August 19, 1993
submittals of application for Technical Revision No. 18 To Permit C-81-022.
The Division adequacy comments are listed below:
1) Because the monitoring analysis list for S-2 is more comprehensive
than the NPDES sampling analysis for outfall Oll (Minewater
discharge pond), the limitation of sampling S-2 only when S-1 is
flowing can only be approved if a quarterly surface water full
suite analysis is conducted on outfall Oll effluent (as described
on page 2.04-39a of Permit C-81-022). Please revise the monitoring
plan to include this addition.
2) The Division agrees with the proposed plan to extend monitoring of
Springs 1-11 through June 1994 in order to obtain baseline water
quality and quantity data. Somerset Mining Company must commit to
not mine within the angle of draw projected downward from the
Springs, until this baseline analysis has been conducted and
submitted to the Division. Division analysis of the data, and
Division approval must also be in place prior to said mining.
Sincerely,
~~~
Steve S.
