An additional copy has been
filed with the Gunnison County courthouse, as per the regulations. Also a copy of this application
is being forwarded to Mr. Mike Ward of the US Forest Service Paonia District Office at his
request.
Two of the four proposed exploration sites and activities described within this application were
previously permitted, bonded, and approved under NOI No. X-95-212-03. Supporting
documentation for those sites is referenced to the 1995 NOI application rather than resubmitting
the information to the Division. This should facilitate the prompt authorization of those sites with
prior approval.
The remaining two proposed sites are planned as helicopter supported drill holes utilizing air
mobile equipment and supplies. This style of drilling is considered as experimental and will be
evaluated for future use based on safety, core recovery, and economics. Information on hole 97-
19-1, which is located within our Exploration License # COC 58219, is contained in this NOI
application. As per our conversation, substitute bonding has been proposed for this site in lieu of
posting a separate bond.
Drilling and exploration activities for hole 97-15-1, which is located within the West Elk Mine
permitted area, will be submitted for approval as a Minor Revision to our Permit # C-80-007.
All applicable parts of the Federal and State Performance Standards for Coal Exploration will be
met and are covered in the exploration and reclamation plans. MCC has reviewed, and will
comply with, all applicable requirements of 30 CFR 815.15 and the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Regulations stated in C. R. S. 34-33-101, as amended. The west Elk Mine permit
