Long <br /> Division Director <br />Denver, CO 80202-5733 <br />Re: Rimrock Strip Mine (Permit No. C-1989-074) <br />Permit Renewal Application No. 2 (RN-2) <br />Dear Mr. Johnston: <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 118, <br />Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on July 25, 2000, an application to renew an existing permit to <br />conduct coal mining operations at the Rimrock Strip Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All <br />review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate <br />from this date of filing. <br />Rimrock Coal Company proposes to continue Surface coal mining and/or reclamation operations on land located <br />approximately 3 miles Southeast of Trinidad, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />Portions of the NW 1/4 of Section 29, T33S, R63 W of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Trinidad East. <br />Operations at the Rimrock Mine ceased in February 1993 and the mine was reclaimed in 1994. Activities during <br />the next five year permit term will be focused on maintenance and monitoring. <br />A copy of the renewal application is available for public inspection at the Las Animas County Courthouse, 200 <br />East First Street, Room 104, Trinidad, CO 81082, and at the Division office.
