The Division understands that approximately 3,000 gallons of
water escaped the containment system of the pump house because the sump pump
in that facility was not adequate to handle a leak. Your verbal and written
notices were timely and your initial response has been appropriate.
Please ask Core Laboratories to rush the analyses of the soil and spill water
samples. Provide the results to the Division ae soon as possible.
You stated in your letter that BMRI is evaluating precautions to be
implemented against similar situations in the future. Your Technical Revision
No. 17 which ie your response to the Mined Land Reclamation Board's request
that you provide the Division a plan to prevent spills from the process water
handling system between the mill and the tailings disposal area should include
your plan to prevent future spills from the pump house. I underet~d that
your response to the Division's adequacy review letter for this re ision was
mailed recently. if Chat response does not contain ouch a plan, please change
your response to add it.
The Division will review the Core Laboratories analytical results and your
plan for preventing this type of spill before deciding whether or not to take
further action in this matter.
Please call if you have questions.
Sincerely,
~~~~~~
~' Larry D.
