Long
Division Duccbr

Re: Exceedence of a Permit Condition, SF-1 Point of Compliance, San Luis Project, M-88-112
Deaz Mr. Zumwalt:
As you reported, manganese levels in the SF-1 monitoring well exceeded the allowed permit
condition value of .OS mg/1 dissolved manganese in three recent samples. The Jupe 30, 2000
quarterly sample measured 0.111 mg/1 dissolved manganese. The August 7, 2000 first
verification sample measured 0.135 mg/I dissolved manganese and the second verification
sample collected on August 24, 2000 measured 0.132 mg/1 dissolved manganese.
Pursuant to TR-15, if monitoring of any parameter shows levels outside of the Permit Condition
Values, and verification samples also show results outside of the Permit Condition Values,
BMRI will submit to the Division, within thirty (30) days of receipt of the final verification
sample analysis, a specific response plan, including a schedule for the implement[ition of the
plan. However, the plan will not be implemented until BMRI obtains Division approval.
Also, pursuant to TR-15, if both verification samples lie outside of the Permit Condition values,
the Division may notice BMRI of a possible violation of that condition of its perrttit. The
decision to send BMRI a notice of violation will be made in the near future.
L` you have any questions, please give me a call.
Sincerely,
ames Dillie
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Michael B.
