COLORADO NATURAL HERITAGE PROGRAM
r/o University of Colorado Museum
Hunfer 115, Cnrrrpus Box 315
Boulder, Colorado 80309-0315
(303) 492-4719 • Fax (303) 492-5105
March 2, 1994
Barbara L. Pavlik
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman St. Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Ms. Pavlik:
RE,--... ; - ..
(\hA~ p 41994
iiiiiiiuiiiiiuiii
sss
N hh e~
Conservanry
t_
The Colorado Natural Heritage Program (CNHP) is in receipt of your recent request for
information regarding File No. C-31-018, Western Fuels -Utah coal mining permit
renewal application. to response, CNHP has searched it's Biological and Consetvation
Datasysrem for natural heritage resources (occurrences of significant natural
communities and rare, threatened or endangered plants and animals) documented from
the legal description of the project area included in your request.
According to the information currently in our files, there are no occurrences of
significant natural communities or rare, threatened or endangered species documented
from the project area. However, the White River is known habitat for several Colorado
rivers rare, threatened, or endangered fishes. These species are particularly sensitive to
shifts in water quality, hydrologic regime, or significant disturbance of riparian
wetlands. In addition, the area supports seasonal use by bald eagles, and seasonal
resn'ictions may be warranted. Please contact the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and
the Colorado Division of Wildlife for legal restrictions and detailed instructions.
While the information contained herein represents a thorough search of the CNHP's
Biological and Conservation Datasystem, any absence of data does not necessarily mean
that other natw'al heritage resources do not occur on or adjacent to the project sire, but
rather that our files do not currently contain information to document their presence.
CNHP's datasystem is constantly growing and revised. Please contact CNFIP for an
update on this natural heritage information if a significant amount of time passes before
it is utilized.
Sincerely,
GL(~~n,~-C~
atherine~ ~.
