Minerals and Geology
RE: REQUEST FOR MINOR REVISION - KERR (MARK) MINE (Permit No. C-80-006)
Kerr Coal Company, Jackson County, Colorado
SUBJECT: CATTLE GRAZING PLAN -'YEAR 2004
Dear Mr. Boulay:
Accompanying this transmittal are three copies of Kerr Coal Company's application for a
Minor Revision concerning the Grazing Plan for the Kerr mine site for the current year, 2004.
Last year's grazing schedule, October, 2003, was cut short due to the respective cattle
ranch rotating other BLM pastures adjacent to the Kerr Mine which placed grazing the Kerr site
at the end of the season. Consequently, due to limited forage, the cattle passed through the site
for only a couple of days as compared to the 11 days scheduled. This season (2004), the rancher
intends to graze the Ken site at the beginning of the season and is scheduled to graze Kerr the
first part of June (2004). Accordingly, Kerr intends to use the grazing recommendations provided
by the Route and Jackson County agents, CJ Mucklow and Brenda Brown respectively, from their
July, 2003 evaluation.
Their letter of recommendation is enclosed for your review and file. In summary, their
recommendation is for 188 Animal Units per Month (AUMS) and to graze the site in a short
period of time as we have done in previous years. Given that the herd of cattle available from the
neighboring ranch is 500 head and based on 188 AUMS as rer~mmended, grazing time converts
to11.4 days. Accordingly, Kerr intends to graze the site for a period of l ldays with 500 head of
cattle commencing the first part of June, 2004.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact me at your
convenience.
Sincerely,
org .Patterson
Gen Mine Mgr
cc: RA Munson -Energy Fuels
JC Mossman -Hydrologic Supervisor
