Long <br />CC: Dan Hernandez Division Dneaor <br />RE: PHC Update, Permit Renewal, Colorado Yampa Coal Co., #C-81-071 <br />As per your request of February 12, 1997, I have completed review <br />of the FAX pages for the CYCC permit #C-81-071. <br />Most of the changes were indeed insignificant and consisted of <br />mostly wording modifications. The significant update was a new <br />downstream salinity calculation based on the last three years of <br />current data collected from the mine. It predicts a possible <br />increase in salinity of up to 62% under "worst-case" assumptions. <br />It also refers to Table lla, which details the 1997 analysis, but <br />this table was not in the materials I received from you. <br />The bottom line is I don't know how accurate their calculations are <br />but given the numbers and percentages provided, I would say that <br />the PHC is likely to be much more accurate now than it was before, <br />particularly with regard to the surface water predictions. <br />Let me know if you need anything else.
