iii iiiiiiiiiiiu iii
To: MathewsD~COAL
Cc:
Bcc:
From: CrosbyE~COAL©DNRML
Subject: McClane Mine; Bonding
Date: Monday, January 5, 1998 21:07:00 UTC
Attach:
Certify: N
Priority: Normal
Defer until:
Expires:
Forwarded by:
Dan, 2 received a fax from John Walters regarding concrete demolition costs
for the McClane portals. John is proposing to place plastic pipes in the
cast concrete whereas the pipes can be filled with dynamite and detonated.
John will break up the concrete into panels that can be pushed in the mine
portals for disposal. He came up with an elaborate plan to do this work,
with diagrams. I spoke with Renner about the reality of such a task.
Renner said that it is very difficult to stack large pieces into an entry,
especially when the pile becomes higher. In reality, It will be very
difficult to stack the pannels inside the portals as described by John.
Based on Renner's experience at Coal Basin, he estimated a cost of $17 to
$20 per yard to demo concrete, including a disposal cost. John estimated a
cost of $4,958.88 for the demo work, which is close to Renne is estimate
per cubic yard ($4,595.00). It is quite a bit less than MEANS cost, but we
also need to consider that roughly 30 feet of the concrete will be covered
under backfill when reclaimed. I am inclined to go with John's cost
because it is slightly higher than $20 per cubic yard, and MEANS is rather
excessive for what he is planning. I am not really estimating for the
pannels, because I don't think it can be done. Zts your call on that one.
I will be out of the office for the next two weeks, only in a day or two,
so leave me an e-mail or voice message if you have any questions. -Erica
