A coal lease hoe been applied for, by Bowie Resowces, to develop The Iron Point Coal
Tract This means the mine will be drrecfiy under the water drain~oe of my irrigation system. Tttis is not good. So far,
the Federal Government, BLM, has put a hold on any mining in this area, but [he mine is continuing to mine coal as
though they have full approval. 1 don't know if this falls under yow jurisdiction, or if you can help in this matter.
They aze, also, expanding a settling pond, which sits above the North Fork of the Gumuson River. I have worked on
and in most of the mines in this azea, and 1 know enough about geology to lotow this is not a good situation. So, l am
aslang yow help to bring local and open meetings to this azea to help settle this dispute.
I'm not anti-mining, but i really don't want to loose my irrigation water to subsidence, or anyother man
made cause. The quality of the water leaving Delta County is not very good now, due to the existing mines,
municipal sewer systems, and nurolf liom farms. How can the river survive? How can the residents of Garvin Mesa
be asked to sacrifice ow life's blood?
Thank you for yow time.
Sincerely;
Robert Soby
