Long <br />Division Director <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116, Paragraph <br />4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February I8, 1999, an application to revise coal mining operations at the Bowie <br />No. 2 Mine was consideredcomplete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Bowie Resources Limited. All <br />review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />Approval of this technical revision would allow mining in the westsection of the alreadyapprovedpermitarea. Mining would <br />remain conventional room and pillar and there would not be any increase in the production rate. No Federal coal is involved. <br />In addition, the mine plan map is being updated with this technical revision to show the current extent of mining and the <br />proposed addition to the mine plan. Finally, the subsidencesec[ionofthepermitapplicationisbeingupdatedtoincludemining <br />through the fault that will need to occur in order to access the proposed west mine section. <br />The undergroundcoal mining operation is on land located approximately 5 miles northeast of Paonia, Colorado. The permit <br />area is further described as follows: <br />Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, I I, 14, I5, and 16, Township 13 South, Range 9S West of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie. <br />A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Delta Counry Courthouse, 5th & Palmer, <br />Delta, CO 81416, and at the Division office. For additional information or to provide written comments, contact the Division <br />of Minerals and Geology, Room 215, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado 80203, (303) 866-3567. In order for us to <br />comply with regulatory time frames, we request that comments be submitted within fifteen (IS) days of this letter.
