Long <br />Division Director <br />Pursuant to Title 34, Article 33, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, the <br />Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice that on January 17, <br />1995, a technical revision application for a permit to conduct coal mining <br />operations by Mountain Coal Company, P.O. Box 591, Somerset, CO 81434, was <br />deemed complete for the purposes of filing. All reviews and comment periods <br />as provided in the Act and Regulations promulgated thereunder initiate from <br />this day of filing. <br />The applicant proposes to revise underground coal mining operations at the <br />West Elk Mine. The technical revision addresses the inclusion of approxi- <br />mately 3400 cubic yards of coal development waste in the Lone Pine development <br />waste pile. <br />The West Elk Mine permit area is located approximately one mile east of <br />Somerset, Colorado, and is generally described as follows: <br />Townshio 13 South. Rance 90 West. 6th P.M. <br />Sections 9, 10, 15 to 22, 26 to 30, and 34 <br />Township 13 South, Range 91 West, 6th P.M. <br />Sections 23 to 26 <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle <br />maps of Somerset and Bowie. <br />Because the above referenced technical revision application might alter <br />previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are <br />requesting your agency's evaluation of the proposal as it relates to fish and <br />wildlife considerations, including potential impacts to threatened or <br />endangered species. Please advise us if you require additional information. <br />In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that <br />comments be submitted to the Division of Minerals and Geology at the above <br />
