Dr. Pendleton indicated that in his
opinion the approach taken by the consultant appeared to be
appropriate, and the conclusions plausible.
We are requesting that one additional measure be taken to monitor
stability of the embankment. A pair of survey monuments should be
installed in the area of the cracking (5' roof bolt driven into the
embankment at centerline and collared 18" deep in concrete should
suffice). The monuments should be surveyed immediately after
installation this fall, and then surveyed quarterly for one year in
addition to the required embankment visual inspections. The
installation and initial survey should be completed within two
weeks. If no significant movement has been documented in one
year's time the surveying can be discontinued. The monuments,
however, should be maintained for resurveying in the future if any
significant movement were to be suspected during future
inspections.
Please contact me if you have any questions or objections to this
request.
Since 1 ,
~~~~~
Dan T.
