PAINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
WQCD, PERl~SIT SECTION! Colo. Dept. of Natural Resources
P.O. Box 939
Patin la, Cu ., 81423
Attn: Larry Reschke
Dear Larry,
This letter is [o follow-up our visit to Blue Ribbon Coal Piine located at
2098- 4405 Drive in a portion of Section 2,Township 13 South, Range 91 Wesl
of the 6th P.M. Delta County, Colorado on January 24th and 25th, 1985 We
visited the site [o investigate a complaint received by this department re-
garding waste water from the mine's individual sewage disposal system being
discharged into a ditch and thence into Hubbard Creek. We placed dye into
the septic tank cleanout at 1:30 P.M. and observed the 4 inch steel pipe from
which the septic tank allegedly discharges. We observed the pipe untill
3:45 PM and again at 8:45 AM on the 25th and found no trace of the dye.
You stated that you had recently pumped the septic tank and would continue
to do so untill a new absorption system could be installed. This method of
waste water disposal would be acceptable on a temporary basis. We would
recommend that you disconnect the effluent pipe from the tank so that the system
will not discharge into the ditch.
By disconnecting the effluent pipe the possibility of violating the CPDES
Permit No. CO-033553 willbe eliminated.
Enclosed please find. copies of information on mound absorption systems that
we disc4ssed.
If you have any questions regarding this matter please contact this office.
Yo cs Truly,
~.~~~~~
Kennet ordstrom
Director of Environmental Health
KN:wip
e ncl
cc: Sandy Squire WQCDH ~.
