Simpson, P.E.
State Engineer
Division ~f Minerals and Geology
We have received you letter of November 15, 2004, requesting renewal of the above
referenced substitute water supply plan to cover depletions caused by an existing gravel mining
operation. The required fee of $217.00 for the renewal of this substitute supply plan has been
submitted. The original supply plan was approved on April 30, 2001 and most recently renewed
on January 14, 2004.
This plan describes the actual uses for 2003 and 2004 and the projected uses for 2005.
According to the information submitted, no water surface was exposed within the permit boundary
prior to January 1, 1981.
Mining at the site may be done under wet conditions with a dredge directly exposing
groundwater or under dry conditions by dewatering the pit area. The area of exposed
groundwater specified in the plan assumes that the area will be mined under wet conditions.
The anticipated consumptive use for 2005 consists of 27.1 acre-feet of evaporation loss
from a maximum exposed area of 13.53 acres, 8.83 acre-feet lost in product (4% moisture of
300,000 tons of raw material) and 3.07 acre-feet of water used for dust control (total 39.01 acre-
feet). The exposed pond area gradually increases from 3.73 acres in January 2005 to 13.53
acres in December 2005. See the table below for the area exposed monthly.
The S&H Mine Gravel Pit is located approximately 2,900 feet from the Sauth Platte River.
The Applicant has provided a monthly schedule of lagged actual depletions to the river system,
together with a schedule of replacement requirements. While this replacement amount matches -
calculated river depletions, the deficit between pit and river depletions will need to be accounted
for in future years.
f
~~.~
