lIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
999
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Govei
DEPARTMENT OFNATURALRESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Director
DATE: January 23, 1989
T0: Carl Mount _
FROM: Jim Pendleton
RE: Seneca II ne - Po 08 - Embankment Settlement Survey
Permit #C-80-005)
I have reviewed the embankment "stability" survey submitted by Peabody Coal
for Pond 008 at its Seneca II mine. The survey presents the results of a
resurvey of the top of the embankment at Pond 008. Peter V. O'Connor required
the operator to perform a resurvey of the embankment one year after its
original construction. He had observed 'bog' conditions in the vicinity of
the embankment's foundation and was apparently concerned about possible
consolidation settlement of the embankment's foundation materials. The
results of the survey verify that no appreciab]e settlement has occurred since
construction.
In my opinion, Peabody Coal has satisfied the requirements Peter V. O'Connor
placed upon resurvey of the Pond 008 embankment at the Seneca II mine. I see
no reason why this survey needs to be repeated.
cc: Sue Mowry
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel. (303) 866-3567
