i
~ MINED 1~ WILDLIFE STATEMENT/EVALUATIO1jrRevised) LG~~
for limited impact and III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII ne application
The following information pertaining to .+~iaiire9is provided for use by fined Land
Reclamation Board in their consideration of a mining permit for:
Bullger Basin Placer/Penn. Mountain Minin /Gold Placer 3 mi. SW of
Name/Type and Location of Hine (Legal)
Wildlife Species list:
Potential impact on aquatics, being brodk, brown and-rainbow trout as we~l as
invertebrates. In addition, there is seasonal use by deer, elk, black ear,
bighorn sheep, mountain goat, numerous small game species and raptors.
Endangered/critical species/impacted:
Brook, brown, and rainbow trout.
Critical habitats/vegetative communities impacted:
Alpine forbes, and sedges; timberline ecosystem. ~ ~~
Pssessment of impact:
The mining operaion should have only minimal impact on terrestrial wildli e and
aquatic wildlife in Pennsylvania Creek as well as the Middle Fork of the outh Platte
could be jeopardized if water quality safety measures are not enforced.
Y,ine Reclamation recommendations (include key species/habitats for whichrestoration
is designed).
Because of historic mining problems and the rebirth of mining in the gulc es and
streams that feed the MIddle Fork of the South Platte. A loss in water q ality for fish
and invertebrates has occurred. Adequate steps such as rip-rapping and/o rubber lining
the settling ponds to preventdischar;a or a breach should be required. P ge 16 of the
application states that discharged water if any will have its suspended s lids removed. It
does not elaborate as to how this will occur. This statement also indica es that a discharge
permit should be required.
The document (page 11-I3) also states that as part of the vegetation reel mation plans the
finer tailings will be prepared as a growth medium. I question the abili~y of tailings
to produce and feel that peat moss as well as some fertilization need to ~e spread and
mixed for topsoil. i
Pre?aced By:
Jim Jones
Sub-.fitted By: Ernest
finis statement is void
'!-nis analysis does not
Kaska
if not processed within 1 year.
constitute approval of application.
Date:
Date
