X003 -
09/
~~-/-~3
Wetland Evaluation at the Duckworth Property
July 2003
Prepared by:
Warren R. Keammerer, Ph.D.
Keammerer Ecological Consultants, Inc. -~p~
5858 Woodbourne Hollow Road
Boulder, Colorado 80301
Introduction
This report presents the results of a wetland delineation at the Lafarge
Duckworth Property site in Weld County, Colorado. The wetland delineation s`ETJ
focused on an area along and in the vicinity of Idaho Creek. In addition to mapping
wetlands, an assessment of the status of Ute Ladies Tresses orchid (Spirnntltes diluvinlis)
and Colorado Butterfly plant (Gnus neomexicnnn ssp. coloradensis) was conducted. Field
work for this project was conducted in late June-July 2002.
Methods
Wetlands were delineated using a combination of air photo interpretation and
field checking. An aerial photo base map at a scale of 1 inch equals 200 feet was used to
evaluate the location of wetland areas within the study area. These areas were visited in
the field and were evaluated relative to wetland status using the U. S. Army Corps of
Engineers (1987) wetland delineation manual. Boundaries of delineated wetlands were
flagged in the field and were subsequently surveyed using standard surveying
procedures. Reed (1988) was used as the basis for categorizing the plant species
observed in the wetland areas. In cases where species were not listed in Reed (1988),
wetland indicator status was assigned on the basis of how the species tend to grow
within the region. These assignments were based on the experience of the author of this
report.
As part of the field work, all observed species occurring within wetland areas
were recorded. Field searches and compilations of the species lists aided in the
assessment of the potential status of the occurrence of Ute Ladies Tresses Orchid and
potential habitat for this species. Part of the field work for this project was conducted in
late July (2002) at a time when Ute Ladies Tresses Orchid would have been in flower.
