Our response to the remaining issues follows below.
In reference to your comment #1, the Applicant is fine with the Division assuming alfalfa as the
cash crop for the purposes of determining a bond amount for Reclamation.
In regards to your questions about the Reclamation Plan (beginning on page 2 of your letter), we
have been in contact with Mr. John Murray of the Montrose County NRCS office. Mr. Murray has
recommended the mixes shown in the tables below for sideslopes and pit floor and for the
temporary berms. Hay mulch will be crimped and applied at a rate of 4000 pounds per acre after
seeding. Seeding will be accomplished via drill seeding and the soil will be disc harrowed. For
fertilization, Mr. Murray recommends 25 lbs. of actual nitrogen and 20 lbs. of actual phosphorus
per acre, to be applied in the first fall after the first season's growth.
Seed Mix for sideslopes/Pit Floor
Species NRCS Rate %of Mix NRCS Recommended Rate
Orchard Grass 1.0 #/ac. 20% 0.2 #PLS/ac.
Smooth Brome 6.0 #/ac. 20% 1.2 #PLSlac.
Tall Fescue 5.0 #/ac. 20% 1.0 #PLS/ac.
Alfalfa 1.0 #/ac. 10% 0.1 #PLS/ac.
Needleandthread 2A #/ac. 10°ib 0.2 #PLS/ac.
Indian Ricegrass 2.0 #/ac. 10% 0.2 #PLS/ac.
Seed Mix for Temporary Berms
Species NRCS Rate % of Mix NRCS Recommened Rate
Crested Wheatgrass 6.0 #/ac. 30% 1.8 #PLS/ac.
Pubescent Wheatgrass 6.0 #lac. 40°10 2.4 #PLSIac.
Orchard Grass 3.0 #/ac. 30% 0.9 #PLS/ac.
