Oehler RECEIVED
Division of Minerals And Geology
Department of Natural Resources AUG 0 41997
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Division of Minerals a ~aoiogy
RE: Objection Letter, Pari:daie Project, 112 Permit Application
Deaz Mr. Oehler,
I am writing to express my concern regazding Agile Stone Systems' application for a state
reclamation permit. My concern is based on the fact that Agile Stone's Proposed Project
Description is inadequate in its presentation of the impacts to the site and the area. As a
commercial outfitter on the Arkansas River, I am distressed by the fact that the possible effects
of the proposed project on the recreation and tourism industry is not even addressed in the
Proposed Project Description. It would seem logical that some consideration would be given to
the effects of the mine on the visual resources, water quality, air quality, dust, vegetation, and
riparian habitat in one of the most popular tourism and recreation azeas in the state.
I am equally as concerned at the pace of which this project is seemingly being approved.
A decision that has such potential long term effects as this one should require extensive site
surveys, impact analysis, more extensive public hearings, water and air quality analysis and
traffic impact studies as well as a study on the impacts on recreation and tourism. It appears
obvious to me that few if any of these issues have been adequately addressed.
As much as I would like to see the entire permit denied, if it were to be approved I would
like to see the above issues addressed, as well as extensive and detailed visual screening plans,
noise impact minimization and specific transportation outlines containing both rail and non-rail
hauling options.
Please give this matter the serious consideration that it deserves.
Sincerely
Joe Greiner
PS Please notify me of any future meetings regarding this issue, and feel free to call me if I can
be of any assistance.
Fax: 719-395-6716 • Email: inaraft@vtinet.com • web site: http://www.vtinet.com/inaraft
