Watcher
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Re: Trapper Mine, C-81-010, First Quarter 2003 Sediment Pond Inspection Reports
Deaz Mr. Mattern:
The Division has reviewed Trapper Mining Inc.'s Flrst Quarter 2003 Sediment Pond Inspection reports.
TMI's first quarter 2003 sediment pond reports were received by the Division, on February 28, 2003.
Timely submittal of these reports is incompliance with Rule 4.05.9(17). Sediment pond inspections
were conducted by TMI between Januazy 20, 2003 to January 22, 2003
Sediment levels for many of the ponds were unreported due to snow and ice cover in the ponds.
A vertical face noted on the upstream bank of East Pyeatt No. 3 pond. This damage is attributed to
cattle grazing and should be corrected during the spring of 2003. SA vertical face on the embankment
of Elk No. 1 is noted in the report with corrective measures to be enacted during 2003 construction
season. TMI did not supply a sediment pond inspection report for Middle Flume No. 3 pond for fourth
quarter 2002. TMI stated that this pond was accidentally overlooked and submitted an inspection for
this pond dated January 21,2003. This inspection for this individual Bond cannot suffice for both 4th
quarter 2002 and fast quarter 2003. Another inspection should have been conducted on Middle Flume
#3 during first quarter 2003.
Thank you for the timely submittal of these reports.
Sincerely,
Janet B s
Enviro ental Protection Specialist
C:/jhb/C81010/Sediment Pond Inspection/2003 first q.doc
Cc: Dan Hernandez, DMG
