Two permit exceedences occurred during the yuarter.
At Outfall 002 an exceedence occurred on ~nnuary 14, 1999 when the maximum 7 day average for BOD was
found to be in excess of the 45 mg/I limitation. TCC believes this exceedence was a result of uuruual
Conditions created during the holiday season. While fewer than normal people were present, several
special de;ming and mainten:mce projects were undertaken. We have experienced no further problems
with the EiOD through this reporting period.
Quarterly \C/hole EfOuent Toxicity (WE'D test were conducted on Outfall 001 the week March ]S, 1999.
This site passed for C. Dubin, with a "Concentration with Statistically Signific;mt Difference in Lethality"
reported at 75.0%. The site failed, however, for P. Promelas with a "Concentration with Statistically
Significant Difference in Lethality" reported at 4Z0%. Copies of the CDPS \Y/ET Tes[ Report Fonns for
both species are included with this submittal. Accelerated \Y~ET testing began ar Apol l2, 1999. Results
of those tests are not yet available.
The WET tests conducted this yuarter required extra visits to Outfall 001, and generated additional field
parameter values which were calculated into the statistics reported on the DMR<.
TCC continues to note that there is not a Total Dissolved Solids limit in the permit. The 30-day limit of
1700 mg/1 indicated on the DMR form is incorrect. No exceedence has occurred for that paraeneter.
Please contact me at (970) 870-2730 for any hrrther questions or additional infonnarion.
T\CrENTYMILE COAL COMPANY'
~ ~ C'Q'>'~l ti ~-~/
hoc Shoemaker
Hnvironmenml Specialist
enclosures
cc DMG
C\CPS Permit No. CO-0t1421G1 file
r
