M III IIIIIIIIIIIII III M
999
Mountain Aggregate Construction, Inc.
P. O. Box 1270 `•, ti, ,. +~`.r
Rifle, CO 81650

Mined Land Reclamation Division May 8, 1985
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
Attn: Peter V. O'Connor - Inspector
Ref: Letter of Inspection, dated April 11, 1985
File No. 78-279-Goldman Gravel Mine, Garfield County, CO.
Today I called Mr. O'Connor in regards to his letter of
inspection, however he was not available so I talked with Mr.
Berry. During my conversation with Mr. Berry, it seems almost
impossible for an inspector to meet with me on site to point
out some of the misunderstandings that may have occured.
The last crushing done in the gravel pit was in the summer
of 1982 with a stockpile at that time. We have not been able
~ ~ to sell all of the gravel. There has not been any reclamation
or stripping since that time. The only complaint we have had
from the summer of 1982 was a request for a map identifying the
permit area. We contacted Don Goldman, also Garfield County,
the previous permitee and were unable to locate a map. Then we
sent a check to Mined Land Reclamation Division to cover the
cost of producing the complete set of the permit file. Reading
~ ~ through it, there were no maps of the gravel pit area.
In regards to questions on possible violations, only some
questions can be answered without an inspector being present.
We will attempt to cover in general some of these questions.
Some of the higher banks and washes are possibly out of the pit
area. In absence of a map, we will contact Don Goldman and with
his knowledge of the area bring in an engineering firm to survey
® ~ the present pit area. With the type of equipment and material
we used, we felt the mining operations were safe.
We have had no complaints from the Mined Land Reclamation
Division for the past three years on our gravel pit operation.
With the method and some adjustment in our reclamation plan, we
will be unable to complete our plan if Mr. Frei 's attempt in
evicting us from the pit will be sucessfull.
Please advise us of a Board Meeting, so we may attend. We
also believe that we should be notified of your next inspection
of our gravel pit. We only have our bookkeeper on site and she
is not familiar with the mining part of the business.
Very ul~ ours ~
Arlie F. Bailey
President
