~II II~II~II~II~~ I~~
~~~~~~~~
August 16, 1988
AU G 17 1988
MINED LAND
RECLAMATION DIVISION
Mr. Daniel I. Hernandez
Mined Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Phil Sheridan Lode Mining Permit Application
MLRD File No. M-88-081
Boulder County, Colorado
Dear Mr. Hernandez:
We received a copy of your letter to Mr. Harry D. Covey dated August 12,
1988, and since that time have talked with Mr. Covey concerning his applica-
tion.
We are still vehemently opposed to the proposed mining operation, and request
that a formal public hearing be held at the September 21-22, 1988 Board
Meeting.
Among our major concerns are the potential of illegal trespass on our land;
the potential problems associated with water run-off and diversions; the
potential problems of storing explosives and detonators (especially if it
is near residential homes and/or public school bus routes); the impact on
the wildlife in the area; and the impact on the environment in the area of
the mining operation.
Also, we have questions about Mr. Covey's plan to return the land to resi-
dential use in 1998. Does he have the financial resources to return the
land back to its natural condition, and does he have specific plans for
the removal of any tailings and the filling of any mine shafts? The Sun-
shine Canyon area already has too many dangerous, unfilled mine shafts
from old mining operations.
Once again, we feel that a formal public hearing is required to fully
disclose all concerned parties' opinions and concerns.
Thank you,
t
.C~ `
Larry a Jd Christiansen
6191 Sunshine Canyon Dr.
Boulder, CO 80302
