Box 68
Craig, Colorado 81626
(97018248246
RE: PERMIT CO.0034142: FIRST QUARTER. 1998 DISCHARGE MONITORING REPORTS
Dear Ms. Lenkey:
Enclosed is a completed and signed copy of the above referenced discharge monitoring report required by Cyprus
Empire Corporation's (GEC) permit for January 1, 1998 through March 31, 1998. Also, enclosed are copies of the
COLORADO -CDPS WET TEST REPORT FORTS -CHRONIC Forms for required quarterly testing. No permit
limitation exceedences occurred during the quarter.
For Outfalls 022 and 024, more parameters were reported then required in the statistics because Rou[ine Chronic Wet
Testing was being performed at that time. The reported statistics demonstrate that [hese sites were visited per permit
regulations.
Chronic Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) testing was performed at Out(alls 022 and 024 and indicated no toxicity to
P. promelas or C rlrrbia. The "Concentration with Statistically Significant Difference in Lethality" was > 100%. Copies
of the CDPS \y/ET Test Report Forms for both species are included in the submittal.
Outfall 024 shows oil and grease lab data for 1/9/98, 2/4/98, and 3/4/98. There was no actual sheen on the wa[er.
Due to a misinterpre[ation of the permi[ regulauons, the sampler at Empire was having the lab automatically test for
this parameter. Again, this was withou[ cause, there was no O&G sheen at Outfall 024.
Outfalls 003, 007, 009, 011, 012, 014, 015, 016, 017, 019, 020, 021, and 023 along with Site 300I did not discharge
during this period.
Outfalls 004, 013, and 018 have not Mowed in recent years. During the indicated flow period for this quarter, however,
[he permitted location was experiencing a 65% snow pack melt Deer a period of two days, which caused these sites to
discharge. This is highly unusual for this area, and thus had anomalous effects on the above mentioned Outfalls.
Please contact me a[ (970) 879-3300, ex[. ?305 For any further ques[ions or additional informs[ion
CYPRUS EMPIRE CORPORATION
~~` ~r ~ ~~ ~ ~ - c~~
Step"hanie 5.
