Somerset did attempt <br />to perform the scheduled monitoring on an unrecorded date in <br />January and on February 21st. The monitoring scheduled to be <br />performed during January and February is as follows: <br />1. Springs 7 - 11 <br />2. North Fork of the Gunnison <br />3. Nine Ephemeral Drainages <br />4. Portal Drop Inlet <br />5. Dlonitorinq Wells SC-1, SC-2 <br />River - Upstream 6 Downstream <br />and SC-3 <br />An attempt was made to monitor Springs 7 - <br />and February. The sample point for Spring <br />located at the north end of a culvert in <br />Highway 133. It was frozen and snow cov <br />sampling was attempted. The remainder of <br />frozen and snow covered. <br />11 during both January <br />8, the Oliver Mine, is <br />place under old State <br />Bred during both times <br />the springs were also <br />The Divisions letter indicates the North Fork of the Gunnison River <br />waa open and flowing according to Division photos taken on February <br />23, 1994. Somerset does not dispute this fact. However, there was <br />ice along the bank of the river that made it hazardous to Collect <br />water samples. Somerset was working with the Colorado School of <br />Hines (CSM) during February and !larch to initiate and aquatic <br />impairment study. Personnel from CSM needed to get into the river <br />to perform sampling for the study. On March 9th, Somerset notified <br />CSM that ice on the river bank had melted so the study could <br />proceed. <br />During both January and February the nine ephemeral drainages were <br />monitored and found to be snow covered. None of the drainages had <br />
