Walther
Executive Direcor
Ronald W. Cattany
Acing Division Director
The Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) has reviewed the 1~', 2"d, and 3rd quarter 2002 Discharge
Monitoring Reports (DMR) for the Lorencito Canyon mine, CDPS permit CO-0045080. Self-monitoring of
previously established and new outfalls commenced after pond construction during these quarters as a
result of expanding mine operations.
No discharge was noted during the 1~ and 2"d quarter of 2002 due to the regional drought experienced by
the area. Discharge was noted during the 3rd quarter due tD storm events in the late summer. Please
refer to Table II-1 of the NPDES permit amendment for permit revision no. 1 (PR-01) for the Lorencito
Canyon mine. This amendment can be found in Exhibit 21 of the permit application. Specifically refer to
outfalls 001A through 009A. Please contact the Water Quality Control Division and request correction of
this table as follows;
Receiving water for ouffalls 002, 003, and 005 are Cow Canyon, not Jeff Canyon.
Receiving water for outfalls 008 and 009 are the Purgatoire River.
3. The location for outfall 009 is not fill 9. Please change the location as necessary.
The Division of Minerals and Geology would concur with the request for a waiver of the primary limitations
due to discharge from pond 009 during the third quarter.
We have no further questions at this time. Please copy the DMG on any correspodence to the Water
Quality Control Division. Thank you for your diligence in pursuing your monitoring and reporting as
required.
Sic ely,
t A.
