Prosence
District Engineer
Colorado Division of Highways
P.O. Box 2107
GYand Junction, Colo. 81502
Dear hlr. Proseroe:
Doc Date:12/11/2001
- -+
Western Slope Carbon, Inc. (PSC) wishes to thank you for keening
us appraised of the develop+rn~ts with regard to the State Highway 133
renovation east of Paonia.
Wa^. has been firming up plans for a ventilation shaft to be locat=d
approximately a 1/2 mile east of the East hli:le. It is projected that this
vent.sha.ft will be lccated south of the high•.oay and require that three
entries pass un~:er the highway. These proje:tions, of course, depend
upon the •rock conditions we encrounter at the time of driving the entries.
In no case will our' entries pass tinder the highway under questionable rcof
mnditiors whi;._t could cause deterioration of the highway.
As you are aware lvSC's operation is croc,,ded between the river and
the hillside and quite often we have very little roan to Mork. We are
attempt?ng to locate this intake shaft in an area of sufficient width
to give both,the Highway Department and 415C room to acm~llish our desir~i
ends.
Please refer to the enclosed map and give us your oa-rr~ents. t~'SC
will keep you appraised of the conditions underground and their affect on
the location of the intake shaft. It might be mentioned that the intake
Shaft, if it is rewired to be roved wilt be :roved in the north-south
direction, most likely north toward the mountzin.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if these maps raise Rnre
questions.
Sincerely,
~~~ S~-~~
Chief I7lgineer
11IA/bno
• Enclosure
cc: David !loin, C`II12L1
Tcm Pike, OP•~1
w !
