It does not intersect the actual pit areas. The xash is betxeen the
txo (2) areas that x111 be mined.
The excess drainage is created due to heavy rains; the xater runs along
an existing roadxay and then crosses into the xash area. The County has
installed culverts to control xater into the xash and has rip-rapped
portions of the sides of the xash to protect it from erosion. The ditches
within the pit area are designed to control excess xater from heavy rains
into the xash or borrox ditches along the existing roadxays.
A proposed road extension x111 connect to an existing roadxay xhich x111
help to divert xater into borrox ditches rather than Winning off the hill-
side into the pit area.
Diversion ditches within the site will be removed, if that proves beneficial,
as part of the final reclamation; hoxever all borrox ditches x111 remain
to channel xater axay from the site.
3• Chaffee County Ss the applicant operator for the Salida pit. The County
x111 have an agreement xith the City of Salida for the use of material
from the pit.
4. The proposed pit and surrounding area have a historic use of sand and
gravel mining operations as shown on the enclosed Exhibit C. The area
consists of gravelly alluvial soil. There is little or no plant cover
and xhere vegetation does exist it Ss mostly xeeds, rabbitbrush and
traces of grass. (see page 1~ of the Soil Survey)
Topsoil that exists xithin the site is minimal and is estimated to be
a depth of i inch. Salvage x111 be difficult as indicated in the S.C.S.
report-Exhibit E. Topsoil, overburden or other materials encountered
in excavation and suitable for revegetation will be stockpiled. The
stockpiled materials will be applied to the site at a depth of 2 inches.
