Colorado Avenue
Denver, CO 80210
Re: Request of Bond Estimate, Transit Mix Concrete Company,
Daniel's Sand Pit #2, Permit No. M-73-007; Castle Concrete Company,
Castle Sand Pit, Permit No. M-77-213
Dear Mr. Heifner:
On December 18, 1991 you telephoned Mr. Bruce Humphries, our Minerals Program
Supervisor, and requested that I call you to discuss the bond estimate for the
Daniel's Sand Pit #2 and the Castle Sand Pit. On December l7, 1991 the
Division had informed you that in lieu of the detailed information requested
to properly calculate the reclamation bond, the bond for the current disturbed
acreage had been set at $5,000 per acre by Mr. Humphries.
When I returned your call on December 19, 1991, you informed me that
Mr. Sud Herskind of Transit Mix Concrete Company had proposed a figure of
$4,000 per disturbed acre for the Daniel's Sand Pit #2, to be added to the
existing 5130,000 reclamation bond for the site, and an additional $100,000 be
added to the existing $30,000 reclamation bond for the Castle Sand Pit.
After discussing your proposal with
the Division, I called you back and
into compliance, the Division would
or the information previously reque
with the $5,000 per acre figure and
process to have both bonds in place
Bruce Humphries and Daniel Hernandez of
informed you that to bring both permits
accept either the $5,000 per acre figure
sted for the bond estimate. You agreed
informed me that you will start the
by January 31, 1992.
According to the Division's calculation and based on the estimated 165
disturbed acreage for Daniel's Sand Pit #2 and the 30 acres of disturbance for
Castle Concrete, the total reclamation bond that should be in place is
5975,000. Since the Division is currently holding $130,000 for the
Daniel's Sand Pit #2 and $30,000 for the Castle Sand Pit, the additional bond
amounts required by both operators to bring these operations in compliance is
an increase of $120,000 for the Castle Sand Pit, and 5695,000 for the
Daniel's Sand Pit ~2. These increases in bond must be in place by January 31,
1992 for the operators to avoid possible Notices of Violation.
