Access is over the existing Necierland-
Caribou road, and by the existing Cross Mine cutoff from i:he
"winter road" section of the county-maintained Nederland-Caribou
road. Please note the existence of these roads on the 19.2
quadrangle map prepared by the United States Department of the
Interior.
Mine dumps existed at the Cross site prior to the conmence-
ment of rehabilitation activity in 1974. Prior to 1976, several
hundred tons of dump material were removed from the site to afford
a more level surface for equipment handling. Removal of the excess
material enhanced the reclamation potential of the mine area.
Mining Activity
The majority of surface disturbance in the area occurred
decades prior to the passage of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
Act in 1976. Very minor changes in dump configuration were made
during 1974-75. All mining activity has been confined to a
trapezoidal area roughly one (1) acre in size.
No new material has been added to the dump area since passage
of the 1976 Act. Since mining activity began, development has
occurred primarily by driving directly on vein material. ire is
shipped directly to the mill, with only a minimal stockpile remain-
ing on the premises.
