For the
reasons outlined in the enclosed letter of May 6, 1997, DMG would
like to see the discharge permit inactivated, so that final
reclamation activities can proceed this field season.
You have indicated that you thought the permit could either be
inactivated, or that the current permit would be allowed to expire
on June 30, 1997, and the operator would be advised that renewal of
the permit would not be required. Because the operator has
established an effective vegetation cover which has reduced
sedimentation to pre-disturbance levels, and because certain
drainage modification work necessary for final reclamation is not
practicable as long as the discharge permit is in effect, we are
requesting that you act on the operator's request as expeditiously
as possible.
Please let me know if you need further information.
Sincer y,
~~~
Dan T.
