By your <br />account; these cracks aid not appear until Spring of 1979, <br />approximately 2'~ years after you had been living in the house. <br />,`.The house is a one story wood framed house which was built <br />approximately 32 years ago and remodeled within the past 10 <br />years. It is founded gpon an alluvium of cobbles, gravel and <br />silts. The floor area is approximately 1300 S.F. The floor is <br />a woo~i~framed floor with a crawl space. <br />'T'here is a gravel quarry approximately 120 feet to the west <br />of th~a house. By your account, .there was a conveyor belt <br />Located~s?proximately 126 feet from the house and numerous trucks <br />and heavy earth movingequipment which were operated within the <br />proximity of the conveyor. The equipment operated at various <br />times during the past two years, principally in the spring, <br />summer- and fall. During the operation of the equipment, numerous <br />loose objects such as a.hanging stained glass ornament in the <br />window 'and glares in a.cabinet were disturbed, Some windows <br />rattled.and the vibrations were felt by.those in the house, <br />There .was not any equipment. at the site of the gravel quarry <br />durinP;~my visit although~:there was evidence manifested by excavated <br />hillai.dea and t-racka of tracked equipment.,; <br />DISCUSSION <br />~. <br />. ..,i~The observations=of .the previously noted disturbances <br />~correspoad to an .earthquake ,intensity of~.IV;as described by <br />the Mod ofied Mercali,Scale.'.The Mod ified,Mercall Scale is one <br />of the..most common intensity;acales and is used to supplement <br />_ , <br />„ .. <br />,...... <br />.. .._. <br />' ~. <br />'rr~ F. <br />M~t]~{Il~h ly . <br />..
