Depi. cl A~aturl kesc~rces
Cliffs Engineering, Inc. wishes to respond to your comments dated November
15, 1983 on behalf of Industrial Resources, Inc. regarding their proposed pilot
solution mining operation. Our responses follow the format of your comments:
MLRD Comment:
The Division is very concerned with the moving of the
topsoil stockpile from its current location next to the Bulk
Sampling Plant to an area adjacent to pond No. 1. Pursuant
to Rule 6.4(c) of Rules and Regulations, topsoil stockpiles
are to be located in areas where disturbances from ongoing
operation will be minimized. Also, pursuant to Rule 6.4(d)
of the Rules and Regulations, any relocation of an existing
topsoil stockpile requires Mined Land Reclamation Board
approval.
Due to increasing from the Bulk Sampling Plant phase to the
Pilot Plant phase, the Division understands the necessity of
moving the topsoil stockpile and will recommend approval to
the Board. However, the Division requests assurance by the
operator that this topsoil stockpile will not have to be
moved again in the future when the operation is phased up to
a commercial size scale. If the topsoil stockpile does have
to be relocated during the commercial phase, is it possible
to locate the pile in another location (that will not be
disturbed) now instead of at a future date?
A Subsidiary of The Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company
BIB TAUGHEN9AUGH 9LV 0.
