I collected a small sample for feld tests of
pH, temperature and conductivity, and planned on taking a larger sample for a
complete monthly surface water suite plus the quarterly acute WET test the next day.
f-lowever, when I returned to take that larger sample, [he site had ceased discharging,
and it did not discharge again during the quarter. I estimate that about 72,000 gallons
of water were released through the outfall.
Since the water released came from pit inflows that sourced from our upper highwall,
and that the source was located a short distance (<300 feet) from an active irrigation
ditch, I believe the water discharged from the outfall was of similar or better quality
that what was discharged from our normal mine outfall, Outfall 007. Outfall 007 was
in compliance during the 4"' quarter of 2000.
In the future, when Outfall 008 discharges, a sample will be immediately collected for
the field test, the monthly lab surface water suite and a acute WET test. That way, if
the site does not dischazge again for the quarter, the outfall will remain in compliance.
Please give me a call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
~ ~~;~~~~
Tony dins
Mine gineer
